Challenges of holding World Quality Week
We've been through a few editions and we know that World Quality Week can arouse a variety of reactions - some positive, others not so much. If you've ever said or heard the phrases below, know that we Quality professionals have raised the white flag to talk about a topic we love and believe in all its benefits.
Establishing a Quality mindset takes time and repetition. If this is the case, use World Quality Week as a starting point, but focus on continuing the actions and training after the event, continually reinforcing the importance of quality.
Watch out for any kind of phrase that diminishes or discourages. Now is the time for celebration and engagement.
- “It only serves to fulfill a schedule, it doesn't change anything in everyday life.”
- “What's all this about? The company has never called Quality before.”
- “It's not going to improve my salary, so I'm not even interested.”
- “Quality? That's the control staff's business, it has nothing to do with my work.”
- “After the week, everything goes back to normal, as usual.”
- “These lectures are always very theoretical, they don't help with anything practical.”
- “We already know all that, there's no need for this event.”
- “Waste of time, we have more important things to do, it's always more of the same.”
- “It's just to say that we're doing something for Quality.”
- “We never have the resources for improvements, but there is money for these events.”
Activity tips for companies (with or without a Quality Culture).
As an initial guideline, customize the talk according to your company's characteristics to make World Quality Week more efficient and effective. Here are some tips for activities:
- Reflect on people's understanding of their responsibilities and the organization's objectives
- Emphasize that employees are an integral part of the processes and for this it is essential that they follow the processes and procedures with consistency
- Highlight the positive impact of Quality culture in organizations - for example: less rework, fewer customer complaints or better team productivity
- Celebrate internal achievements - for example: new projects, new clients, projects delivered with customer satisfaction
- Present performance indicators e quality tools with a friendly language for the team's knowledge
- Recognize the contributions of Quality professionals who focus on a daily basis the continuous improvement of the organization
- Highlight employees who are deeply invested in the creation and improving customer value - example: continuous improvement projects with good results

After the screening of each film, talk to the team about the requirement explained, encourage thoughts, collect lessons learned and remember to pass on the attendance list and take photos so that the team feels engaged
Remember that most employees don't need to know or read ISO 9001 completely in order to be able to do their jobs correctly in accordance with ISO 9001. Management System of the company, so focus the lectures on skills and processes that people need to know.
Tips for employees outside the Quality department
Participate, engage, comment and celebrate World Quality Week! Support the Quality team and all their efforts to make the company more productive, without errors and rework.
